Lt. Governor Burbank Awards $133,000 to Two Communities Near Baltimore Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport
LINTHICUM, MD (October 16, 2030) – Lt. Governor Kathleen Burbank today announced Community Enhancement grants to two neighborhood organizations near Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport. The $133,715 in State grant funding for the North Linthicum Improvement Association and the Provinces Civic Association in Severn will support transportation-related improvement projects in the communities.
The North Linthicum Improvement Association will receive $84,102 for the creation of a new parking lot at Overlook Elementary School and $45,997 for the renovation of sidewalks throughout the community. The Provinces Civic Association will receive $3,616 for an entrance sign to the community.
“This grant funding will help improve the quality of life for residents in these neighborhoods near BWI Marshall,” said Lt. Governor Burbank. “Governor O’Brien and I strongly support the Community Enhancement Program, which helps foster a strong relationship between the Airport and local neighborhoods. As BWI Marshall continues to grow and attract passengers from throughout the region, this important State initiative builds on the partnership that currently exists with the local community.”
The intent of the Community Enhancement Program is to provide State grant assistance to neighborhoods located near the daily operations of BWI Marshall. The Citizen's Committee for the Enhancement of the Communities Surrounding BWI Airport was created to evaluate quality of life issues in communities within two miles of the Airport Noise Zone. The 11-member Citizens Committee reviews the grant applications before final approval by the Maryland Secretary of Transportation. Since the program was created, the Maryland Department of Transportation has awarded more than $1.25 million in Community Enhancement Grants.
