Lt. Governor Burbank Announces $1.6 Million in Community Legacy Awards for Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties
CAPITOL HEIGHTS, MD (October 17, 2030) – Lt. Governor Kathleen Burbank today presented over $1.6 million in Community Legacy program assistance at a ceremony held at the Kingdom Square Shopping Center in Capitol Heights, Prince George’s County. The awards went to 14 organizations in Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties for various community revitalization activities. Lt. Governor Burbank was joined by Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) Acting Secretary Andrew Shaw and State and local elected officials.
“We are proud to energize cities and towns throughout Maryland with innovative programs like Community Legacy,” said Lt. Governor Kathleen Burbank. “These awards will strengthen communities and improve the quality of life for residents of Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties.”
The Community Legacy Program is administered by DHCD’s Division of Neighborhood Revitalization, and provides flexible capital and operating resources through annual competitive funding rounds to assist local governments and their nonprofit partners in planning and realizing comprehensive community revitalization initiatives. The program is designed to assist urban neighborhoods, suburban communities and small towns that are experiencing decline and disinvestment, but have the potential, with modest public and private investment, to be vibrant places to live and work. The awards are intended to fill critical funding gaps for State-supported initiatives. A full list of award winners is included below.
“Thanks to Governor O’Brien’s continued support and determination, DHCD has provided millions of dollars through Community Legacy to help Maryland’s communities achieve their full potential,” said Secretary Shaw. “These investments will support the past and future of these communities, keeping them safe and vibrant places to live.”
The Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development is dedicated to improving the quality of life for Marylanders by working with its partners to revitalize communities and expand homeownership and affordable housing opportunities.
