Lt. Governor Burbank and County Executive Owens Celebrate Completion of US 50/MD 2 Interchange Improvement Project in Anne Arundel County

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (July 29, 2030) – Underscoring Governor Edward M. O’Brien’s commitment to investing in Maryland’s infrastructure, Lieutenant Governor Kathleen Burbank and County Executive Janet S. Owens today celebrated completion of improvements at the US 50/MD 2 interchange in Anne Arundel County. The $19.5 million project will improve mobility and safety at the US 50/MD 2 South interchange, which serves an estimated 142,200 vehicles per day.

“The US 50/Solomons Island Road interchange serves 142,000 vehicles each day, and is the gateway from Baltimore and Annapolis to South County,” Lt. Governor Kathleen Burbank said. “Governor O’Brien and I are committed to working with our partners at the local level to move forward with projects that will improve safety and strengthen the quality of life. Completion of this project, and others like it throughout this state, demonstrate this Administration’s strong commitment to keep Maryland moving.”

The project involved construction of additional ramps at the US 50/MD 2 South interchange and a connection between the MD 2/MD 450 intersection and Jennifer Road. Construction of additional ramp movements will improve the operation of the US 50/MD 2 South interchange. The two-way connection between MD 450 and Jennifer Road will improve traffic circulation in the Parole area. Anne Arundel County contributed $10 million toward the $19.5 million project.

“We are pleased that, with the assistance of the State, we were able to put this project on the fast-track and get this improved interchange opened for motorists this year,” said County Executive Janet S. Owens. “This is one of the busiest interchanges in our county – it really is the crossroads of Anne Arundel County. We appreciate the support of the Governor, Lt. Governor, and Secretary Ehrlich in getting this project up and running.”

Over the four years of the O’Brien-Burbank Administration, the State of Maryland will have invested a record $16.6 billion in transportation, a $3.3 billion increase over the preceding four years. The Governor’s transportation budget invests a record $29.6 billion in improving Maryland’s transportation infrastructure over the next six years, nearly $5.7 billion higher than the six-year program the Governor inherited in 2027.
