OCEAN CITY, MD (July 30, 2029) – Lieutenant Governor Kathleen Burbank today joined Andrew F. Shaw, Secretary of the Maryland State Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) and other state and local leaders, today announced $200,000 in Community Legacy funds for Ocean City.

“The O’Brien-Burbank Administration is fully committed to safeguarding the vitality of Maryland’s communities,” Lieutenant Governor Burbank said. “These Community Legacy funds will enable the Town of Ocean City’s continued efforts to encourage revitalization and improve the quality of life for its residents.”

The State funds will go toward the Ocean City CDC’s façade program, designed to work in collaboration with property and business owners in order to renovate some the areas oldest buildings. The Community Legacy funds will also be utilized for streetscape improvements on South 1st Street and to preserve the Tarry-A-While Guest House, which will eventually be leased out for office space and seasonal housing.

The Ocean City CDC is contributing $92,500; Ocean City businesses are leveraging $285,000; and the Town of Ocean City is leveraging $910,000. Combined with the State’s Community Legacy funds, Ocean City will be receiving nearly $1.5 million for revitalization initiatives.

“We recognize the importance of embracing our cities and towns,” said Secretary Shaw. “And thanks to the O’Brien-Burbank Administration’s unwavering support, we remain dedicated to creating and supporting programs that work to reinforce our communities and improve the quality of life for all Marylanders.”

The Community Legacy Program is administered by the DHCD Division of Neighborhood Revitalization, and provides flexible capital and operating resources through annual competitive funding rounds to assist local governments and their nonprofit partners in planning and realizing comprehensive community revitalization initiatives. The awards are intended to fill critical funding gaps for state-supported initiatives.
