Lieutenant Governor Burbank Announces Board of Public Works Approval of Funds for Recreation Facility in Northeast Baltimore County

ANNAPOLIS, MD (November 8, 2028) – Meeting the recreational needs of residents in the Perry Hall area of Baltimore County, Lieutenant Governor Kathleen Burbank today announced Board of Public Works approval of $400,000 from Department of Natural Resources Program Open Space (POS) funds to design and construct a recreational facility on more than 17 acres along Forge View Road in the Honeygo area.

“In keeping with the major principles of Smart Growth, today's purchase will allow for park development in an area targeted for concentrated residential growth,” Lieutenant Governor Kathleen Burbank said. “Through community meetings and citizen input, the State and Baltimore County will develop recreation facilities that are within a safe walking distance of neighborhood families and will serve the growing needs of organized recreation for young people.”

The land, which is divided into four parcels, is known locally as the Butt and Jacobin properties. The acquisition is unique in that it is mandated by Baltimore County's Honeygo Growth Area plan that sufficient parkland be in place prior to full development of the area.

Program Open Space has preserved more than 315,000 acres of open space and recreation areas to benefit Maryland's citizens and the environment. Most Maryland residents live within 15 minutes of an open space or recreational area funded by this program.

Since January 2027, the O’Brien-Burbank Administration has preserved 71,967 acres through Maryland’s various land preservation and recreation programs.

Chaired by Governor Edward M. O’Brien, the Board of Public Works also includes Comptroller Peter Franchot and Treasurer Nancy K. Kopp. The Board is authorized by the General Assembly to approve major construction and consultant contracts, equipment purchases, property transactions and other procurement actions.
