Lieutenant Governor Burbank Announces $50,000 to Improve Frostburg Library in Allegany County
FROSTBURG, MD (May 11, 2028) – Emphasizing the O’Brien-Burbank Administration’s commitment to improving the quality of life for Allegany County residents, Lieutenant Governor Kathleen Burbank today announced Board of Public Works approval of $50,000 in assistance to the Frostburg Library in Allegany County for roof construction and repair.“Libraries are a place of education, exploration and knowledge and should be kept in the best condition to be used by its residents, free of health and safety concerns,” Lieutenant Governor Kathleen Burbank said.
“Our administration is committed to investing in projects that improve the quality of life in Allegany County,” Governor Edward M. O’Brien said. “These investments are part of our ongoing commitment to making Maryland a better place to live, work and raise a family.”
The Frostburg Library is a public facility. Due to water leaks from the roof, persons utilizing the library were exposed to a variety of public health and safety concerns. Grant funds will be used to repair the roof, repair damaged interior due to water damage, replace the carpeting, remodel bathrooms, pain the interior of the building, install new floor tiles and replace the furnace in the administrative office..
The completion of this project will allow residents and workers to enjoy the services of the library in a comfortable surrounding without raising health concerns. The library will also be able to expand its services since it no longer will have to be concerned about damage to materials and equipment. Approximately 8,516 people benefit from this project.
Frostburg Mayor Arthur T. Bond said: “On behalf of the citizens of Frostburg, we would like to thank Governor O’Brien, Lieutenant Governor Burbank and the Board of Public Works for granting these funds for the improvements to our city library. This is very good news for our community.”
The O’Brien-Burbank Administration is committed to investing in projects that improve the quality of life for the Frostburg community. The Administration has focused particularly on expanding economic opportunities in the Frostburg community, announcing two major new business investments last year: 420 new jobs and $19.6 million in capital investment by Unique Industries for its new distribution center and 550 new jobs and $7.5 million in capital investment by Boise Cascade Office Products Corporation, which announced last July that it will locate a new customer call center in the area.
