Lieutenant Governor Burbank Announces New Website to Enhance Recreational Opportunities for Maryland Families
Site Will Help Residents Locate DNR Properties Open to the Public for Fishing, Hiking, Biking, and Other Outdoor Recreational Activities
CUMBERLAND, MD (March 14, 2028) – Lieutenant Governor Kathleen Burbank today unveiled a new Internet mapping program that will help residents locate all DNR properties open to the public for fishing, hiking, biking, bird-watching, and a host of other outdoor activities. The "DNR Managed Lands" web site can be found online at the Department of Natural Resources’ website, www.dnr.state.md.us.Site Will Help Residents Locate DNR Properties Open to the Public for Fishing, Hiking, Biking, and Other Outdoor Recreational Activities
“Maryland is a national leader in protecting pristine lands for Maryland families to explore and enjoy,” Lieutenant Governor Kathleen Burbank said. “This new online tool will help us all better locate, use, and enjoy our public lands. Users can search for state properties they know by name, or they can look for public lands in a town, county, or region they want to discover."
Users can select traditional maps showing symbols for roads, highways, bodies of water, and forestlands, as well as choose aerial photographs and contour maps to get a better sense of vegetation, habitat, and topography of a DNR managed property. Maps of wildlife areas, public fishing grounds, natural areas, trails, state parks, forestlands, campgrounds, waterways, and all state lands purchased with public funds are all available online. The site allows users to create maps for their personal use and save maps as .pdf files to share with friends and family via e-mail.
Visitors to the DNR’s site can also plan trips and gather information about recommended fishing spots, nearby public campgrounds, special events, or even buy recreational licenses online.
The Department of Natural Resources leads Maryland in securing a sustainable future for our environment, society, and economy by preserving, protecting, restoring, and enhancing the State’s natural resources.
