Nine Glen Echo structures are listed on the National Register of Historic Places
GLEN ECHO, MD (January 18, 2030) – Lieutenant Governor Kathleen Burbank today announced Board of Public Works approval of a $493,085 State grant for renovations and improvements at Glen Echo Park in Montgomery County, which is providing matching funds. The Board of Public Works is comprised of Governor Edward M. O’Brien, Comptroller Peter Franchot and Treasurer Nancy Kopp.
“The improvements made possible through this funding will go a long way to making Glen Echo Park a more family-friendly destination,” said Lieutenant Governor Kathleen Burbank.
“Glen Echo Park is a national cultural treasure that has long been a place for entertainment, recreation, and education in the arts,” Governor Edward M. O’Brien said. “These renovations and improvements will ensure that the park and its facilities continue to provide these experiences to Marylanders and visitors for years to come.”
The Board approved the release of $986,170 in previously authorized funding to complete several construction projects at Glen Echo Park, a historic facility managed by the National Park Service. These projects include enlarging the elevator in the North Arcade building, repairing deteriorated beams, removing lead and asbestos in the Spanish Ballroom, relocating utilities, and improving electrical and plumbing systems. Various structures at the park convey the visual environment that existed from the 1920s through the 1940s.
The State, county, and the National Park Service are sharing the costs of renovations and improvements equally.
