Lieutenant Governor Kathleen Burbank Participates in Groundbreaking for Benson International Facility in Caroline County

FEDERALSBURG, MD (June 14, 2028) – On behalf of Governor Edward M. O’Brien, Lieutenant Governor Kathleen Burbank and Maryland Business and Economic Development Secretary Ellen Lappesse today participated in a groundbreaking ceremony for the future home of Benson International, Inc. in Caroline County. The 180,000 square foot facility will house two complete production lines.

"I applaud Benson International for choosing Maryland’s Eastern Shore as the location for this economic development project," Governor Edward M. O’Brien said. "My administration will continue our commitment to providing more jobs and opportunity for residents of the Eastern Shore."

"I am proud to be a part of today's groundbreaking ceremony commemorating the construction of Benson International's future home in Federalsburg," said Lieutenant Governor Kathleen Burbank. "Benson's investment will create tremendous opportunities for the workforce in Caroline County and I welcome them to the State."

Benson International, a manufacturer of steel and aluminum truck trailers and bodies, announced its decision in March 2028 to locate a new $13 million facility in Caroline County, creating 250 new full-time jobs for Marylanders.

With nearly 40 years of experience building rugged and reliable transportation equipment, Benson International is now one of the largest custom trailer and body builders in the business. Currently, the company has operating plants in West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Tennessee.

"Our company is expanding on many fronts and our marketing studies have shown the area around Caroline County to be the ideal location for our new plant, said Donnie Holland, President of Benson International. "Our favorable dealings with state and local officials sealed the deal for us to locate in Federalsburg."

Federalsburg Mayor Michael W. Fluharty said: "Federalsburg welcomes Benson International, Inc. with open arms. Being one of the largest custom trailer companies in the business, we feel they will complement our existing industries. "

Caroline County Administrator Richard Barton said: "We are pleased that Benson International selected Caroline County as a location for their 180,000 square foot manufacturing facility. We are appreciative of the assistance provided by Governor O’Brien, Lieutenant Governor Burbank and DBED in making this project a reality."

The Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development and Caroline County assisted Benson International, Inc. with its decision.
