Lt. Governor Burbank Delivers $47,000 Grant to Reduce Juvenile Crime in Calvert County
CHESAPEAKE BEACH, MD (September 21, 2027) – Governor Edward M. O’Brien and Lt. Governor Kathleen Burbank today announced a $47,000 grant for a Calvert County program aimed at discouraging youthful offenders from committing additional crimes. The funding will be used for The Teen and Parent Project, a program that takes a three-prong approach to preventing juveniles from continuing to commit offenses. The project works with the juveniles, parents and the court system.“This program provides guidance for juveniles and gives their parents the necessary resources and support necessary to discourage children from committing additional offenses,” said Governor Edward M. O’Brien. “I commend Calvert County officials for working with families to help our youth.”
“Juvenile crime is a severe public safety challenge, and addressing it requires creative thinking and innovative approaches,” said Lt. Governor Kathleen Burbank, who presented the award to Calvert County officials today in Chesapeake Beach. “On behalf of Governor O’Brien, I am pleased to deliver this funding which will support the creative Teen and Parent Project. I am confident that this investment will produce substantial progress in our efforts against juvenile crime.”
The program improves the abilities of parents to communicate, support and discipline their children. Juvenile offenders are taught to be accountable for their behavior and they are provided instruction in life skills to help them desist from further criminal activity.
Court and juvenile officials monitor parents and children who participate in the program and provide additional aid if necessary.
The funds are awarded through the Governor’s Office of Crime Control and Prevention (GOCCP). GOCCP is Maryland's one stop shop for resources to improve public safety.
