Lieutenant Governor Burbank and Housing Secretary Shaw Kick off Habitat for Humanity’s Blitz Build
BALTIMORE, MD (September 7, 2027) – Committed to supporting and expanding affordable housing opportunities for Maryland families, Lieutenant Governor Kathleen H. Burbank today kicked off Habitat for Humanity’s Blitz Build at a build site in Baltimore City.“This is such a great opportunity for me and other state employees to give back to the community and to make a difference in the life of a Maryland family,” said Lieutenant Governor Kathleen H. Burbank. “Habitat for Humanity brings the community together to revitalize neighborhoods and also provides decent, affordable homes for those who are in need of a secure roof over their head.”
Blitz Build starts today and ends next Tuesday with a house dedication ceremony. Over the course of the week a total of 120 state employees, 20 per day, will volunteer. The house is being built for Winifred Jones and his three children. He is the first single father selected to be a recipient of a Habitat for Humanity house in Maryland.
During the week, families, sponsors and volunteers will help build 16 houses on one block. The families who qualified for a house will work along side volunteers to witness and participate the building of their home. The families purchase the homes through zero percent-interest mortgages, to help provide a better life for themselves and their families.
