“The O’Brien-Burbank Administration believes empowering homeowners is key to improving communities,” said Lt. Governor Kathleen Burbank. “This award shows the State’s commitment to providing the necessary tools to build strong neighborhoods throughout Maryland.”
The $220,000 award will fund the Town of Fairmount Heights’ Homeowner Occupied Rehabilitation Program (HORP) and Acquisition Rehabilitation Project (ARP). HORP is designed to provide grant assistance to seniors and low-to-moderate income homeowners for improvements to the exterior of their homes. ARP provides the Town of Fairmount Heights with a revolving source of funds that allows the town to control the redevelopment of vacant, privately owned properties throughout Fairmount Heights and ensure that the properties’ infrastructure and systems are modernized along with the cosmetic improvements.
“Community Legacy does more than just improve buildings and infrastructure. It improves the quality of life for neighborhood residents,” said Secretary Shaw. “Thanks to this administration’s unwavering support of Community Legacy, DHCD will continue to assist communities across Maryland.”
The Community Legacy Program is administered by the DHCD Division of Neighborhood Revitalization, and provides flexible capital and operating resources through annual competitive funding rounds to assist local governments and their nonprofit partners in planning and realizing comprehensive community revitalization initiatives. The awards are intended to fill critical funding gaps for state-supported initiatives.
The Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development is dedicated to improving the quality of life for Marylanders by working with its partners to revitalize communities, expand homeownership and affordable housing opportunities, and preserve historic sites and traditions.
